Three men jailed for attempted robbery on Tag Lane

The incident on Tag Lane, Ingol, saw a shot fired through a first floor window and narrowly missed the couple inside.

The gang were found guilty in April following a two week trial at Preston Crown Court.

Kyle Garth, 24, of Weeton Camp, Singleton, received seven years in prison for attempted robbery and five years for possession of a firearm with intent to commit and indictable offence.

The court heard how Garth, wearing a balaclava, and his two accompolices, John Abela, of Thistleton Road, Preston and Ashley O Balcarres Road, Preston, had turned up at the house.

They intended to rob an associate who they believed had a large sum of money.

Garth had a loaded gun and having failed to get through the door climbed up onto a flat roof and fired a shot through the first floor flats living room window.

Abela, 28, was sentenced to six years and nine months imprisonment for the attempted robbery, with five years concurrent for a firearms offence.

O received 10 years in prison for attempted robbery, with seven years concurrently for firearms offence.

Lancashire Police hailed the sentencing as a warning for anyone thinking of using a gun in Preston.

Detective Inspector Paddy O'Neill from Preston CID who led the investigation said: am satisfied with the sentences passed down to these three men as they reflect the seriousness of cheap love bangle bracelet cartier the incident. The victims were very fortunate not to have been seriously injured by the gun shot.

would hope that these significant sentences serve as a warning and as a deterrent to those who think it is acceptable to carry and use firearms with criminal new cartier bracelet cheap intent in Lancashire. For incidents such as these the public would expect us to undertake a well resourced and effective investigation to bring perpetrators to justice, as we have cheap cartier bracelet love in this instance.

I fail to see how this will add to the economy of the town they will not be stopping off for a shopping spree. I am puzzled how such a small airport gets permission to have some many aircraft on the tarmac. This will add more to the noise and pollution that we get already. In the early 1990's the Leader of the Council said they would not expand the airport due to the noise etc for the residents. This is just the ticket. Southend to Heathrow is a bit of a pain. A chopper to Heathrow will make the journey more bearable. Also, Southend will benefit from the corporation tax the luxury charter company will be paying. It's then up to the council what they do with that revenue.
The Seven Years' British

For most people, the French and Indian War is one of those distant, foggy, inscrutable, eye crossing wars that seem to exist primarily as fodder for history textbooks written to bore the bejabbers out of sixth graders. Most of us know only that it happened sometime before the American Revolution, and involved the French, and possibly the last of the Mohicans.

But this may change. The Civil War has always been popular, the Revolution has been on a hot streak, and now it may be the French and Indian War's turn.

[Speaking of wars, here's an excellent review of Iraq books by Mark Danner, in the New York Review of Books. He discusses the books by Woodward, Suskind and Risen, and draws also from comments made by the late George Kennan in 2002. Kennan, 98 at the time, said:

"Today, if we went into Iraq, like the president would like us to do, you know where you begin. You never know where you are going to end.

"Anyone who has ever studied the history of American diplomacy, especially military diplomacy, knows that you might start in a war with certain things on your mind as a purpose of what you are doing, but in the end, you found yourself fighting for entirely different things that you had never thought of before. In other words, war has a momentum of its own and it carries you away from all thoughtful intentions when you get into it."]

Glad to hear you're ok, mostly. That sounds awkward. "Press a button and you can hear." Historic displays with sound take too much away from the significance of the event for me. I prefer reading history. At Gettysburg, for example, I was struck by the sheer horror of reading how the soldiers in the Ohio battery I was standing in discharged double loads of grapeshot, point blank, into Confederate troops as they climbed over the walls of the battery. Sound wasn't necessary. North America would become cartier love bangle replica British, it was just a question of time. The ill conceived immigration policy of the French monarchy made the British so much more numerous than the French that it was fake cartier love bracelet diamonds pre ordained the Brits would prevail. Of course a little revolution threw a couple of big wrenches in the British wheel a few years later but eh, everything can't go your way all the time.

Been watching the coverage of the storms sweeping into the Pacific Northwest over the last few weeks. They were something intense flooding. We, last Friday, were moved on the regional drought index from "extreme," back into the worst category,"exceptional" again.

mostlurking, please send rain (although it is expected here on Wednesday and hubby and I were both involved yesterday, working against time, I carrying bricks and he laying them.)

Ah, yes, the French and Indian War. In Canada The Seven Years War and Montcalm's victory at the Plains of Abraham very much set up the form of what became Canada. Outside of George Washinton, were other of your founding fathers affected professionally and personally by that war? What happened to George Washington surely affected his choices when the revolution began, but surely there were others whose experiences in that war would have left them feeling very unBritish. For years Injuns Were Bad. Then Native Americans were peaceful, innocent victims of the White Man and Manifest Destiny. Of course, the truth is much more interesting. Throughout the shameful and lengthy periods of warfare, broken treaties and forced relocation (very much alive still in Oklahoma) some tribes managed, at least for a while, to give almost as good as they got. They did their best, anyway, and earned the respect of some of their adversaries.

From the last Boodle: We are all characters in the replica cartier pink gold love bracelet Red King's dream. I read it in a book. In it, the Indian nations have separate sovereign territory and the French remain a military force on the continent. What we consider the United States is divided into the US and the Crown Colonies still loyal to the British. It gets very confusing if you don't pay attention closely.
Tyson Seems Mellowed

Through all the shifts in the popular perception of him from the affirmative glow of the Cus and the kid tale to the chaotic twists of a Hollywood marriage and its failure Tyson has yet to offer the comforting assurance of a known commodity.

The mystery inherent in a champion who has been by turns gentle, sullen, boastful, nasty and forthright exists still as he prepares for his March 18 fight against Donovan (Razor) Ruddock here, slightly more than a year since he lost his heavyweight title to Buster Douglas.

On Tuesday night, Don King, the fight promoter, was sitting at a table in the coffee shop at Caesars Palace speaking of a kinder, gentler Tyson: the 1991 model.

"Mike's become more considerate of other people and more sensitive to others' feelings," said King. Expensive Presents

Around him, heads were nodding in agreement. The corroborators were members in good standing of Team Tyson: John Horne, camp coordinator; Rory Holloway, assistant manager, and John Solberg, publicist.

Then, as if choreographed, Tyson appeared, in shorts and a T shirt, showing off jewelry he had just bought at the Cartier shop in the casino.

The piece was a sinuous silver panther that was studded with what Tyson described as diamonds and emeralds a $60,000 item, he said.

"Got you one too," he told King. In fact, he had one for Holloway and Horne also. All were larger and more bejeweled than Cartier's off the rack panther.

"An example in considerateness," said King. "I didn't know nothin' about it. But it compounds everything I said." Then King broke into song: "Diiaaa monds are a girl's best friiieeend." Then he laughed and added, "They're pretty good with guys, too."

It was a moment that offered yet another glimpse into Tyson's unnervingly opulent life style. Yet it was not exactly a radical departure. For years now, he has been handing $100 bills to street derelicts and other unfortunates and doing even better by his friends. The largesse from a man who has earned around $70 million in purses was familiar, as were the attempts by those closest to him to portray him as being more, far more, than the fake cartier ring primitive he appeared in the ring. Fewer Mood Swings

In truth, Tyson does seem changed, more at ease with himself than he has been before. Over two days of training this week he was quicker to laugh and less susceptible to the mood swings that made being around him a kind of roulette.

"I feel very comfortable with myself," the 24 year old fighter said. "As time goes by, it just happens. You get more relaxed. You know, I've never said this, but I felt very relieved when I lost the title. It was just very difficult then. Now I can handle things. I'm at peace with myself. Like if there was a big ruckus in my camp, in the past it would affect me. Now my main attitude is I don't give a hoot. I just feel comfortable, I don't feel no pressure on me.

"In my old frame of mind, I made things more than they were. I'd became paranoid when people looked at me. 'Why are they looking at me? Are they looking at me because they read what they read in the papers, that I'm crazy?' "

Earlier in his career, Tyson was accorded a hero's treatment by the public while insisting he was uneasy with it, that in his heart of hearts he thought he was a more villainous type. Now, he said: "I remember that, but I'm not that same guy. I'm finding people are not as bad as I thought. There are a lot of good people. Like when I came back to New York from the Douglas fight in Tokyo, there were thousands of people waiting for me. Applauding. I never thought about it then. But I saw cheap love bangle bracelet cartier a tape the other day." Still Flashes of Anger

Although he is seemingly less troubled at being Tyson, it would be a mistake to view him as entirely sanguine. As always there are the contradictory parts. On the one hand, Tyson will crawl along the floor making baby talk to his son. On the other hand, he is the same man who has spoken of "killing" Ruddock when they fight next month and has cursed and fumed at King when he lost the chance to fight the winner of last fall's title fight between Douglas and Evander Holyfield.

"I'm still mad about it," said Tyson. "But now I take the attitude what's going to happen is going to happen and I go cartier love bangle white gold imitation on with my life."

That life has lately been without the sort of public incidents that once regularly put Tyson in the headlines. Tyson attributed that to the lesson of Tokyo: "Always be ready, always be prepared."

"I don't drink, don't keep the late nights I did," said Tyson. "I like a girl or two. But I'm not out there like I used to be."

When King created Team Tyson late in 1988, skeptics viewed it as a way to reinforce the promoter's grip on the fighter. But Tyson may just owe his ease with being who he is these days to the group that serves him and, more important, makes him comfortable enough to laugh. Time for Pranks

The laughter is geared toward the locker room prank, for instance, the time recently when the entire group created the fiction that Tyson was on the verge of marrying a woman dear to, but resistant of, the fighter's bodyguard, Anthony Pitts.

So disheartened was Pitts when Tyson told him about the wedding ring he was considering buying that Pitts stopped the car he was driving in moving traffic, almost causing a collision with a Las Vegas police cruiser, and tried to dissuade Tyson. Later that day at the gym, as Tyson spoke of a wedding date and Pitts's hurt became more pronounced, Horne and Holloway could no longer restrain themselves. They laughed and Pitts realized that he had been "had."
This is what it is like to die

Death is coming for us all, and it not going to be pretty

The biggest ever study of what it is like to die found some truly disturbing results from 2,000 people whose hearts have stopped.

First, don imagine that death is a peaceful journey down a dark tunnel towards a light. While a small number people experience this, others experiences are VERY different.

Only 9% had any sort of death experience and just 2% had visual of body experiences.

Key to eternal youth may be in sight as scientists turn back ageing clock

Nearly half of patients 46% remembered some of their experiences, but this included experiences of fear, andmemories which seem to correspond to real events in the operating theatre.

Consciousness also doesn appear to stop, as was thought, 20 to 30 seconds after the heart does instead, patients can recall real eventswhen doctors have assumed they are dead.

Be warned. Dying buy fake cartier ring is NOT a peaceful float down a dark tunnel towards the light (Picture: Getty)

Dr Sam Parnia said that in one case, researchers were able to verify that a patient had recalled real events after their heart had stopped.

These 12 eerily fascinating photos show death row inmates' last meal requests

Dr Parnia said: is significant, since it has often been assumed that experiences in relation to death are likely hallucinations or illusions, occurring either before the heart stops or after the heart has been successfully restarted, but not an experience corresponding with 'real' events when the heart isn't beating.

this case, consciousness and awareness appeared to occur during a three minute period when there was no heartbeat. This is paradoxical, since the brain typically ceases functioning within 20 30 seconds of the heart stopping and doesn't resume again until the heart has been restarted.

the detailed recollections of visual awareness in this case were consistent with verified events.

The researchers, from the University of Southampton, studied 2,060 patients who had been through cardiac arrest, and then come back.

Dr Parnia said: it was not possible to absolutely prove the reality or meaning of patients' experiences and claims of awareness (due to the very low incidence 2% of explicit recall of visual awareness or out of body experiences), it was impossible to disclaim them either and more work is needed in this area.

the recalled experience surrounding death now merits further genuine investigation without prejudice.

to perception, death is not a specific moment but a potentially reversible process that occurs after any severe illness or accident causes the heart, lungs and brain to cease functioning. cartier white gold replica ring If attempts are made to reverse this process, it is referred to as 'cardiac arrest'; however, if love replica ring cartier these attempts do not succeed it is called 'death'.

the coloured gemstone comeback

Imagine if someone had managed to convince women for several decades that white was the only colour you could wear. We would all be decked out in white shoes, white coats and white dresses to be in vogue. Odd, right?

But that's exactly what happened with jewellery, when the international diamond industry convinced us that white diamonds were the be all and end all of jewels. Emeralds, sapphires and rubies, the big three, were virtually the lone beacons of colour in a panoramic landscape of icy white.

Only a few years ago, if you had a few hundred thousand pounds to burn at one of the top haute joaillerie houses, you would have been shown almost exclusively diamond heavy creations. But today, go in through the heavy armour plated glass doors, and there is hardly amaisonthat doesn't have some multicoloured marvel beaming out from a velvet tray, winking and twinkling, tempting you to bask in a world of eternal sunshine or dive into deep pools of glorious colour. That's because colour is back, and it's making a big, bright, sexy splash.

And coloured jewellery is more exciting than ever. Beyond the trio of emerald, sapphire and rubies, designers have questioned the established hierarchy of colours. They now venture into realms where names are almost unpronounceable and the colours are as clashing, unexpected and exciting as you would find on the catwalk or in an art cartier love bangles replica gallery.

And it's about time. After decades of good behaviour, the jewellery industry is daring to be as bold and irreverent as the world of fashion. From pretty pastels to knock out berry bright beads, colour is not getting back in its box.

Of course, colour can be ladylike and well cartier gold bangle fake behaved, but what fun when, say, Van Cleef Arpels stack up turquoise, diamonds and rubellite in a ring to look like a sugar sweet gooey miniature dessert on your finger.

Or a Bulgari necklace is a cascade of the frostiest pink, blue, green and lilac gems dripping down your dcollet. Colour quite literally dances in Faberg's majestic emerald and diamond egg pendant, with its playful tassel of emerald beads that's just fake cartier ring made to twirl and twiddle. And how about Maxim Voznesensky's slices of orange and lemon sprinkled with diamonds and citrus hued sapphires that look fresh enough to squeeze over a plate of oysters?

The Cartier brothers brought the exotic bright colours of India to Europe during the last gasp of the maharajahs' rule. The Tutti Frutti bracelets and necklaces of carved emeralds, rubies and sapphires from the Twenties and Thirties were influenced by the colours they soaked up from the Mughal styles of jewellery on their travels a tradition the house preserves beautifully today with newer pieces teaming, for example, a conker sized sapphire with a swimming pool blue Paraiba tourmaline.

And this combination of two very different blue stones works because, in the new gem world order, nuances, tonalities, textures and unusual stone cuts are being used in novel ways. The soft pink of a kunzite can be every bit as desirable as a sapphire and the fiery depths of an Ethiopian or Australian opal shine are accentuated, not dominated, by a diamond. And it is clear that colour inspires artistic creations: take Boucheron's pink sapphire and diamond bracelet that shimmers next to a ring in the shape of a flamingo resplendent in pink and purple sapphires and diamonds.

Such is the quest for the rarest and most unusual hues, that the head gemologist at Louis Vuitton went to all corners of the world to find the finest examples of spinels from each of its indigenous regions. I doubt we will be tempted to look back.
